Plans have been unveiled for a gay pride event in Huddersfield and people are urged to rally round to help fund it.

The main venue for the day on Saturday, July 2, will be Tokyo’s on Queen Street where there will be live entertainment from 2pm-8pm along with market stalls both inside and outside.

There will then be an after party in Louie’s Liquor Store (underneath Tokyo’s) from around 9pm

Organisers believe they will need £5,000 from donations to stage the event.

They believe there may be as many as 30,000 people in the lesbian, gay and transgender community within Kirklees.

A Huddersfield Pride spokesman said: “We have very gratefully been given donations from Kirklees Council and The Brunswick Centre but we are currently looking to raise further money. The stalls will give service providers the chance to promote themselves and their groups, such as Brunswick Centre, Kirklees Rape and Sexual Abuse Counselling Centre, HUGG, Sister Shout and Yorkshire Mixtures to name a few.”

The organisers hope businesses will get involved as the plan is to have a brochure that can be handed out for free on the day and there will be scope for advertising in it.

The group has now set up a crowdfunding page which is https://crowdfunding.justgiving.com/HuddersfieldPride

They also have a Facebook page at https:// www.facebook.com/events/392778510892525/
