MOBILE phone mania, reflections on working in Cambodia, a dramatic dash to hospital and how to reduce your carbon footprint.

These are just some of the topics which will be touched on on Monday by the Holmfirth Writers’ Group at its first public reading.

The event, called Lend An Ear, is at Holmfirth Library from 7pm to 9pm.

It will give members of the group, which was established by Beverley Ward more than 18 months ago, the chance to read a selection of their work, including poems, short stories and extracts from novels.

The group meets at the library every other Monday at 6pm and new members are welcome to join.

If you are interested call the library on 01484 222430 to check the date of the next meeting.

Monday’s event will include music from well-known local singer Emily Druce and there will be refreshments.

Lend An Ear is part of the Holmfirth Arts Festival which runs until June 27.

The event is free but places are limited. Obtain tickets from the library.
