A UNIVERSITY building which was closed after a student fell 25ft from a balcony has re-opened for lectures.

The male computer and engineering student, who has not been named, plunged from the second floor of the Creative Arts Building.

He remains in a “critical” condition in Huddersfield Royal Infirmary.

A police inquiry into the incident was launched at 11.30am on Tuesday as staff and students were evacuated.

A statement from The University of Huddersfield said: “The student who was injured in the incident is receiving treatment in hospital, and our thoughts and best wishes are with him and his family.”

The university’s public relations manager John Ramsdin said students affected by the incident had been offered counselling.

Students who were unaware of the incident were notified of the building closure via email from the university’s Professor Steve Donnelly, Dean of the School of Computing and Engineering.
