Armed police were called to a quiet street in Crosland Moor this afternoon after reports that two shots were fired.

Three armed police units, backed by the force helicopter, descended on a terraced house in College Street East.

Police sealed off the house and an alleyway between College Street East and Blackmoorfoot Road where it is believed two cars sped away immediately after shots were heard.

Witnesses said after the shots two “souped up” cars screeched down the narrow alleyway and into Clement Street and away into Blackmoorfoot Road.

Police refused to confirm details of what happened but as dusk fell several police vehicles remained at the scene. Officers combed the alleyway for clues.
