Police have warned Meltham residents to be vigilant after a man in his 50s tried to grab hold of a woman.

The incident has prompted local people to make a social media appeal under the banner Stop Meltham Crime.

Det Insp Mark Colman of Kirklees CID said the incident occurred on Mean Lane between 9.30pm and 10pm on February 4.

He said: “A man tried to grab a woman in her mid 20s by her arm.

“She struggled and ran away. Our enquiries are ongoing.”

The man is described as white with a scruffy beard.

He was around 6ft four ins to 6ft five ins tall and was wearing a black jacket with a big hood.

Mr Colman said: “He shouted at her in a threatening manner and I would warn residents to be vigilant. Anyone who can help should contact 101 and ask for Sgt Chris Hughes.”

In unrelated investigations, police would like to speak to the people pictured in the image gallery below.

The people pictured in the images may be witnesses as well as suspects.
