A former police officer has been given three life sentences for the murder of his girlfriend and wounding with intent on two children.

Jonathan Sutton was also told he must serve a minimum of 28 years for the murder of his girlfriend, Emma Mansell, who died when she was stabbed to death in Huddersfield in May.

Leeds Crown Court heard horrific details of the attack on Miss Mansell, who suffered 81 separate injuries.

The former teaching assistant at a Huddersfield school for children with special needs was hit in the face with a glass before being stabbed repeatedly.

It was also revealed that she was pregnant at the time of the attack.

Sutton pleaded guilty to all the charges when he appeared in court this morning.

Police have said we may never know why Sutton killed Emma. You can read more on that here.
