Kirklees came into being 40 years ago this month - but the towns in it have been around for centuries.

Here are a selection of images of what is now north Kirklees from above in 1928 from the Britain From Above collection.

Britain From Above   aims to conserve 95,000 of the oldest and most valuable pictures in the Aerofilms collection, those dating from 1919 to 1953.

There are hundreds of images in the archive showing how Huddersfield used to look as well as shots of Brighouse, Dewsbury and all across the country.
