Central defence is the area of the Huddersfield Town starting XI which is in need of most attention during the close season, according to the results from our end-of season-survey.

We asked Town fans to give their views on a whole range of subjects, including where they believe the club will finish next year, whether Chris Powell will still be here this time next year and how many additions need to be made during the summer.

A new stopper to supplement the existing talents of Mark Hudson and Joel Lynch is the priority for 85.54% of fans who, prompted to choose as many or as few positions as they liked, also believe a full-back would be a wise investment, with 80.32% keen to see one targeted.

But a new signing on the wings is seen as less of a priority, with fans believing the likes of Sean Scannell, Joe Lolley and Harry Bunn offer enough cover in those positions and, as a result, just 14.86% want to see a new flanker arrive.

How many players should Huddersfield Town sign?

Despite rumours of a possible exit for Joe Murphy, the same applies in goal as just 17.27% are hoping for a new shot-stopper, while 30.12% hope for a new midfielder and 67.47% believe Powell should move for another striker.

In terms of players wanted by the fans this summer, popular loan left-back Reece James proved the clear contender for the left-back vacancy after garnering the majority of the votes, while another former loanee Sean Morrison was the No.1 choice in the centre of defence.

Hull City's Harry Maguire, who was on loan at relegated Wigan Athletic last season, and former Town right-back Jack Hunt were also mentioned, as were Preston North End frontman Joe Garner and Leicester City's Chris Wood in attack.

Unsurprisingly, player of the year Jacob Butterfield came out on top in terms of the players Town fans want to see kept this summer and, interestingly, plenty of supporters want to see Ishmael Miller and Oscar Gobern retained after their consistent form towards the end of the season, with Sean Scannell another popular choice.

What was Huddersfield Town's best performance in 2014/15?

With Butterfield already crowned player of the year, we urged voters to pick their the individual which has surprised them most this season, with Scannell (35.55%) narrowly pipping emerging star Harry Bunn (29.69%) and Gobern (16.41%).

There was a similar pattern in terms of the biggest disappointment of the season, with loan duo David Edgar and Radoslaw Majewski neck-and-neck at the top of the voting, but the Pole - who made just three appearances under Powell and nine overall - received a 31.37% majority share.

Joel Lynch won the club's goal of the season award and he followed suit by winning the fans' votes here, with a massive 53.97% plumping for his over Conor Coady's stunning strike at Wolves (9.52%) and Miller's goal at home to Reading (6.35%).

The 3-1 home win over Watford was voted as the best performance of the season, the game in which Lynch netted his audacious overhead kick, seeing off competition from the 3-0 Nottingham Forest home win (29.37%) and the Wolves away triumph (14.29%) thanks to a 36.9% share of the vote.

The worst performance of the category also had three standout contenders, with the dour 2-0 home reverse to Rotherham United considered the nadir with 30.95% of fans selecting it above the opening-day drubbing by champions Bournemouth (27.38%) and the 3-0 derby-day defeat at Leeds United (19.05%).

What was Huddersfield Town's worst performance in 2014/15?

We also got Town fans to tell us what one question they would ask Chris Powell.

Here are five of the best...

"Why do you feel we have been so inconsistent this season?"

"Why can't we play like we have done against some of the top teams against more of the poorer teams?"

"How do you plan on bringing through young players into the side?"

"Which youth player do you have the most faith in?"

"Why don't you look abroad for players?"

And here are five comments from Town fans posing a question to chairman Dean Hoyle...

"Could the Mark Robins fiasco have been handled better?"

"What are your hopes for town in the next five years?"

"What do you think of the Football League's decision to only award us one point from the Blackpool game?"

"What can you do to improve the atmosphere at home games?"

"Would you consider bringing in extra financial investors to strengthen the club infrastructure and academies?"
