Huddersfield Town defender Murray Wallace has signed a contact extension to 2017.

The talented 21-year-old Scot’s terms were due to run out at the end of this season, but manager Chris Powell has moved to tie him to the John Smith’s Stadium.

Town will have the option of offering Wallace a further year after 2017, just as they did at the start of the current campaign.

Wallace, who signed from Falkirk in January 2012, has made nine appearances this season - scoring twice - and was an unused sub in the 2-2 draw at Ipswich Town last weekend.

Powell was delighted to see the towering central defender pen fresh terms with the Terriers and told the club website: "I’m really pleased that we’ve been able to secure Murray’s future to the Club.

"I’ve been impressed with what I’ve seen of Murray during my time as manager.

"He already has good experience of playing at a good level for a central defender of his age and he will only continue to improve as a footballer through experience, which is an important asset for any defender.

"He is the sort of young player that I want in the group, one that is young, hungry to learn and do well for Huddersfield Town.

"Murray has had to stay patient at the moment due to the form of Joel Lynch and Mark Hudson but, as I keep telling him, his chance will definitely come. When it does, it is down to him to be ready to take it."
