Mark Robins says Huddersfield Town need to be sharper in every department as they bid to snap a sequence of just one point from the last 12 available.

Sixteenth in the table represents the club’s lowest position since game two of the Championship campaign, and this boss wants a rapid response at home to Middlesbrough tomorrow.

He labelled the first-half performance at Blackpool, who scored in the fourth minute, “as poor as I’ve seen from us this season – and it wasn’t nice to suffer”.

Robins rated the second-half display an improvement, but still far from good enough, saying: “We needed more creativity and flair.”

The Town chief, made three changes to his starting side, with James Vaughan, ex-Blackpool favourite Keith Southern and Anthony Gerrard coming in.

Vaughan partnered Nahki Wells up front, with Robins replacing Murray Wallace with Calum Woods in the first half and switching from 3-5-2 to 4-4-2.

Ollie Norwood took over from Jonathan Hogg for the second half, but Blackpool held on for a win which eased their relegation fears.

“With James just back after injury, he and Nahki were a little bit disjointed in terms of their partnership. They need to work at it, and they will,” said Robins.

“But we have to be better behind them, and to give away an early goal having got ourselves moving forward was very disappointing.

Our start to the game had been okay, but we let them play a ball down the side and put it into the back of the net too easily. Having got their goal, Blackpool set up to defend their lead, but we gave them the opportunity to do that.

“We knew they would be fighting for their lives and would be a tough nut to crack, but we didn’t have enough shots on goal.”

Town had more than 1,650 fans in a 14,625 crowd and the manager admitted: “We didn’t give them enough to shout about, and that’s poor from our perspective.”

It was a second successive home win for Blackpool, and caretaker manager Barry Ferguson, whose side are 18th in the table, said: “It wasn’t a great game to watch but at this stage of the season it is all about getting three points and we did that with hard work.”
