Huddersfield Town fans are worried about the team’s pre-season defensive record.

After wins against Guiseley and Leyton Orient, Town shipped three goals against Grimsby Town and four against League One Rochdale – all of those in the first half.

Manager Chris Powell was also unhappy with the first-half showing, but pleased with how the players responded to a half-time rollicking and felt they should have had at least a draw.

He may have had a point, but with just Deportivo to come on Wednesday night and Barnsley away on Saturday before the Championship opener against Hull City on August 8, the supporters are unsettled.

Trevor, from Horbury, explained: “Great going forward, awful at the back.

“We need a quality centre back and the display at Rochdale proved it.

“This season will be like last. Plenty of goals at both ends!”

Richie, from Marsh agreed.

“We’ll need to score a lot of goals this season to win games!” he said.

“I think sadly Town’s attacking play leaves our defence exposed.

“Here lies the problem. Be a shame for us to resort back to Route 1 football, alas that’s what Sheffield Wednesday did last year and they were three wins short of the play offs.

“Dilemmas for Chris Powell.”

Richard, a fan from Kirkburton, was critical of the display at Spotland.

“The defence didn’t turn up let alone play,” he said.

“Butterfield, Wells, Lolley, Bunn and Dempsey were worth their place. The rest need to shape up or ship out.

“Again, what on earth is the manager, who was a defender, doing on the training ground?

“On the last two displays, Town would struggle in Division II. Wake up and drink some coffee, Forget smelling it, it’s too late for that!”

SPH of Almondbury said: “Another defeat but the balance of the side was all wrong. Where are the forwards to help out Wells? He is not a lone striker.”

Steve Pogson, of Fartown, lamented: “Town showed a continued lack of organisation defensively from back to front.

“We will have to show a drastic improvement for the Hull visit to avoid embarrassment.”

Damian, from Boston in Lincolnshire, signed off: “Defensive problems solved, I don’t think so......”
