Nahki Wells is confident hard work in the gym and on the training ground will help him break the 20-goal barrier for Huddersfield Town this season.

The Bermuda international is desperate to get off the mark in his side’s latest Championship clash at home to Blackburn Rovers.

And the 25-year-old former Bradford City frontman reckons the goals will flow thanks to the hard yards he has put in over the close season.

“I’m feeling good,” said Town’s £1.3m record signing, who netted 14 goals last season and four during the friendly schedule.

“I worked hard over the summer to improve the physical aspect and other elements of my game.

“After a good pre-season, I feel sharper and I think things are coming together nicely.

“I haven’t got off the mark yet in competitive matches, but I feel I have played well in the two games so far.

“The goals will come, I’m optimistic about that, and I like to think I’m a 20-goal striker.

“Last season I fell short, but the two before that I got there.”

Wells likes to operate with a frontline partner, but says he’s happy to go it alone if asked.

“Ideally I like to play off somebody, and it doesn’t necessarily have to be a big guy,” he said.

“But you have to be versatile, and you do what you have to do for the team.

“I have done a lot of work on different styles of playing up front.

“And I have tried to become stronger for when I am playing on my own.”
