Rajiv van La Parra says he’s delighted to finally swap old gold for blue and white stripes.

The Dutch winger’s switch to Huddersfield Town from Championship rivals Wolves almost happened in January, then got put back to the close-season.

Now the former Heerenveen player has the chance to acclimatise to his new West Yorkshire surroundings after signing on loan ahead of a permanent deal to be completed during the next window.

David Wagner says he is looking forward to working with van La Parra, and the 24-year-old says the feeling is reciprocated.

“I have heard good things about the coach here,” he said.

“And I liked the fact that he really wanted to sign me, and stayed interested after the window closed.

“When I was with Wolves at Huddersfield (Town won 1-0 in January) I was really impressed with how the team played.

“They worked very hard but also had the ball at feet and passed a lot, which suits my style.”

Van La Parra, who knows Town football operations chief Stuart Webber, who previously worked at Wolves, said he had a chat with former Town player Conor Coady about what to expect.

“Conor said Huddersfield are a good club with great fans and nice people behind the scenes,” he explained.

“It was good to get an inside view, and of course knowing Stuart was a help too.

“I also know Elvis Manu, who was at Feyenoord at the same time as myself.

“We also had a month together when I was on loanm at Brighton earlier this season.”

Van La Parra said injuries to his Wolves teammates thwarted a January move.

“It looked like it may happen. but then things changes and I just focused on what was going on at Wolves, because they were my club,” he added.

“I was ready to wait until the summer, but when the chance to come on loan arrived, I was really happy.

“I am in a very good situation at a club that wants me.

“Now it is up to me to work hard and show the supporters this club were right to want me.”
