Chris Powell says Huddersfield Town have something to build on in their Tuesday-night tester at home to Brighton and Hove Albion.

The Seagulls will land at the John Smith’s Stadium with a 100% record from their two Championship games and one Capital One Cup tie.

In contrast, Town suffered two defeats before their 1-1 home draw with Blackburn Rovers, when Nahki Wells netted his first goal of the season.

Powell blamed a “lack of concentration” for Nathan Delfouneso’s second-half leveller in front of a ticket-issued 11,338 crowd.

But he insisted: “We are under way in terms of our points tally and we have to carry on the good things we did, and there were many.”

The boss, who looks set to lose homegrown keeper Alex Smithies to QPR in a £1.5m-plus deal, added: “It was a real tussle.

“We knew we needed to show some intent and get the crowd with us. I thought we did, and they were.

“Our lead was deserved, and we looked confident in the first half.

“We were looking to try and carry it on in the second half, but we got a bit loose, and a lack of concentration meant we conceded.

“Of course I wanted three points, but that’s our season started, and we have something to build on.”

Powell, who welcomed back wideman Sean Scannell after a hamstring injury, used only one of his three permitted substitutions, replacing Ishmael Miller with Harry Bunn.

“Ishmael was really tired after putting in a shift,” he explained. “We wanted Harry to help out on the left as well as going forward.

“We could have gone gung-ho for a winner, but we would have left ourselves open and risked conceding again.”

On Scannell, Powell said: “He is a major player for us. He is exciting and always a danger, and fans like to see that type of player.

“He’s not yet 100% fit, so there is a lot more to come from him.”

Blackburn boss Gary Bowyer, whose side had, like Town, lost their previous two games, said: “Nathan (Delfouneso) has certainly settled in well.

“He’s had a hand in a goal and that’s two he’s scored. The impact from the substitutes was terrific.”
