Young talented entrepreneurs are to create an alternative market in Huddersfield.

Fifty pioneering stallholders aged 13 to 29 will take over St Peter’s Square and Byram Street on Easter Saturday (April 4) to showcase their different wares.

Handmade fashions, photography, arts and crafts, jewellery, home baking, flavoured vodkas, hampers, gifts and toys are just some of the eye-catching items that will be up for sale to shoppers looking for something with a difference.

Up and coming local musicians will sound track the event from a special stage from noon to 5pm.

An Easter egg hunt, wooden egg cups and origami making will also be on offer for children.

It will be the second such event held in the town since the initiative was launched by Kirklees Council and follows the success of the one held as part of last year’s Festival of Light.

A council spokeswoman said that the next Alternative Market will take place on Saturday, August 8, during the Huddersfield Food & Drink Festival.
