Police have sealed off a small section of woodland after a body was discovered.

The cordon is in place close to Sainsbury's at Shorehead and also near to Huddersfield University 's Bridge House Estates and Facilities Building.

The scene is also close to Huddersfield Broad Canal and not far from the town centre.

It is understood the body was found at about 12:40pm.

Officers are on the scene and conducting inquiries.

A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police said: “Police are investigating following the discovery of a man’s body in Huddersfield town centre.

“Officers were called at around 12.40pm today to a wooded area at Aspley Place.

“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances.”
