Police are appealing for information after a reveller was found unconscious on the roadside near a Mirfield pub just after midnight on New Year's Day.
The man, who has not been named, had suffered a head injury and was taken to hospital by police.
Officers found the man outside the Pear Tree pub in Huddersfield Road at about 12.15am.
Pub landlord Alan Ingle, who had celebrated the New Year chimes on the dance floor with his customers, said there was no trouble in the pub.
“We believe this man had been in the pub though no-one, including me, saw him and certainly no-one brought him to our attention,” he said.
“From what I gathered later this lad may have had an argument with some others.
“I was changing a barrel outside when the police van came past and then reversed up. It was then I saw the lad on the ground. He’d been unconscious and had a cut to his head. I will be checking my CCTV.”
Anyone with information should contact Dewsbury and Mirfield Neighbourhood Policing Team on 101.
