Alex Smithies is targeting a first clean sheet of the campaign at Watford tomorrow – and says Huddersfield Town are desperate to win for Mark Lillis.
With the club being linked with Liverpool left-back Jack Robinson, stand-in manager Lillis looks set to recall Smithies in place of Joe Murphy, who was between the posts for Tuesday’s 2-0 Capital One Cup second-round home defeat by Championship leaders Nottingham Forest.
Watford are second, but Smithies insists Town have what it takes to take the three points.
The stopper says Lillis, who takes charge of a sixth game since the departure of Mark Robins, has transformed the mood of the club.
“It feels like a different place,” said Smithies. “Lills fills people with confidence and it’s nice to play for him. You come in to work with a smile on your face.
“He’s a very passionate man and loves the club and that rubs off on the players. He’s brought us all together and we want to win for him and for each other.”
Town can call on loan midfielder Radi Majewski, who was ruled out of Tuesday’s Capital One Cup clash with his parent club Nottingham Forest.
Nahki Wells, Lee Peltier, Tommy Smith and Jonathan Hogg face fitness tests.
Knee injury victim Martin Paterson has missed out on a place in the latest Northern Ireland squad.
