Danny Brough is demanding the Huddersfield Giants play with more energy – or risk a Super League fade-out.
Sixth-placed Huddersfield maintained their play-off challenge with last weekend’s 52-26 home triumph over relegated Bradford Bulls.
But even though that marked a return to winning ways ahead of tomorrow’s home test against seventh-placed Catalan Dragons, Giants skipper Brough knows if they don’t improve on their Bradford performance, the Dragons will make them pay.
“We lacked energy last week and that contributed to a scrappy game,” said the 31-year-old Super League Man of Steel.
“We just did enough to get through, even though the scoreline was pretty comfortable in the end. But we know if we don’t start playing with a lot more energy, then we won’t put ourselves in a position to challenge at the back end of the season.
“There are six games of the regular season remaining for us and we’re confident we can make a challenge for fourth spot.
“We want to be in the mix and give ourselves the best shot, and that means leaving nothing out there on the field.”
And Brough knows that process has to start against a Catalan side he rates highly.
“They’ve put some good results together in the last couple of months and are playing with confidence,” he added.
“They’ve got quality players all over the park in the likes of Elliott Whitehead, Louie Anderson, Leon Pryce and Morgan Escare, and we’ll be out to stop them and make sure we make the most of our chances when they come along.”
