Yorkshire did it!

Around 2.5million spectators lined the Grand Depart route.

Estimations for Holme Moss seem to have been beaten with around 65,000 people on the roads around Holme Moss, a section Team Sky’s Chris Froome said “gave me goose-bumps”.

Sir Rodney Walker, Chair of TdFHUB2014 Ltd said: “Around 2.5 million spectators lined the route over two days and revelled in being part of history.

“The passion of the crowds in Yorkshire has really made this a weekend to remember.

“I have no doubts the benefits of hosting the Tour de France in the UK will be felt both in the short and long term.”

Christian Prudhomme, director of the Tour de France, said: “I have seen that the people of Yorkshire love the Tour too. I can see the Tour in their hearts, and in their eyes. For that, I say thank you to Welcome to Yorkshire, and to everyone in Yorkshire who has made this Grand Départ so very, very special.

“Bernard Hinault said to me, it is the first time in 40 years on a bike that he has seen crowds like we saw this weekend.

“What you did was good for Yorkshire, for sure, but what you did was also good for the Tour. When you said you would deliver the grandest Grand Départ it was the truth, you have raised the bar for all future hosts of the Tour de France.”
