The Championship season is almost here.
Under two weeks until Huddersfield Town kick off league proceedings against Brentford on Saturday August 6.
Preparations are stepping up , with the first of two friendly games out in Austria - the team are based out in Fugen until Saturday.
Werder Bremen are the opposition, and are aiming to improve on last season's 13th place finish in the Bundesliga with seven summer signings.
For Town, Liverpool loanee Danny Ward makes his long awaited debut, but Kasey Palmer and Nahki Wells are both high profile absentees.
We'll bring you full updates throughout the action.
Decent workout
No goals, and after the break never really looked like getting any goals.
However, the pace and intensity will have ensured the friendly was a good workout for Town players - even if a few had to be withdrawn. We await news of Dempsey, Billing and Bunn.
The defence looked comfortable and Danny Ward looked confident.
89mins: Town free kick cleared
Dean Whitehead’s kick is cleared but he wins it back to feed Payne, who uses his quick feet to make space for the cross. Cleared again as Town lok for late pressure.
86mins: Harry Bunn off, Jordan Williams on
16-year-old Jordan Williams is on to face Bundesliga opposition. Great moment.
83mins: Town standing strong
Werder Bremen trying to flex their offensive muscles as the game draws to a close but Town are standing firm in defence, which bodes well.
The ten half time changes disrupted the rhythm somewhat. It’s interesting that that remains a feature with just one more scheduled outing after this before the Championship season kicks off.
76mins: Chance!
And Werder Bremen should be ahead. Coddington saves the first chance but the man following up can’t find the open goal. Ouch.
Don’t worry lad, not like there’s replays or anything.
75mins: Werder Bremen free kick
Set piece 30 yards out for Town’s opponents but the wall does its job.
72mins: Hogg shoots wide
Jonathan Hogg takes a shot from a right wing position. This is not a drill.
It’s distinctly tame though and sails harmlessly wide.
69mins: Final ball lacking
Defenders 1, attackers 0 on both sides so far.
Very few genuine chances with the defenders crowding out the frontmen so far. Give us a (Town) goal, please!
63mins: Billing off, Whitehead on
Dean Whitehead comes on for Philip Billing. Only 20 minutes or so for the Dane, but he did take a knock against Liverpool last week.
Possibly just a precaution, but we’ll be crossing everything until we hear from Wagner.
61mins: Take a bow Smith
Captain for the second half, Tommy Smith cuts out a dangerous Bremen attack.
54mins: Save Coddington!
Dangerous free kick from Werder Bremen finds a target in the penalty area but the header is pushed behind by Coddington! Good stop from the youngster.
51mins: Bunn tenacious
Harry Bunn working hard on that left flank and isn’t far away from finding a teammate in the centre - despite being overcrowded by defenders on this narrow pitch. No loss of pace to this half so far.
Ward verdict
One shot in the first half will tell you Ward wasn’t exactly under the cosh on his debut, but he looked confident and commands his area well.
Good start from the Liverpool loanee.
TEN CHANGES
Ok, bear with me. The only player to retain his position is Jack Payne, who came on after 35 minutes.
So the second half XI looks like this: Coddington, Smith, Hefele, Stankovic, Davidson, Hogg, Billing, Lolley, Payne, Bunn, Pyke.
Half time stats
According to the numbers guys at Werder Bremen, possession has been at exactly 50-50 this half. Not common in a Town game!
It’s been fairly even all round - Town have had two shots to the German side’s one. Good pace and intensity to this encounter though which should please both managers.
HT Town 0-0 Werder Bremen
Goalless at half time but an entertaining contest. A better final ball needed but good signs from those in blue and white stripes.
43mins: Chance for Town!
Jack Payne drags an effort wide of the stick after a nice move. Town have looked promising here.
43mins: Handbags
Isn’t this supposed to be friendly, lads? Kachunga is fouled deep in Town territory, Paurevic goes to protest in a rather physical manner and is shown a yellow card.
41mins: Schindler and Loewe combine
That looks rather ominous a break from Werder Bremen but Schindler chases back physically to slow them up and then Loewe tidies up, winning a foul in the area.
Bremen want a penalty for that but nothing doing.
38mins: Kachunga booked
Elias Kachunga is shown a yellow card for a foul in Town’s half but the resulting free kick comes to nothing.
33mins: Scannell driving
Great driving run down the right wing from Sean Scannell but the defender gets in the way of his attempted cross. The ball won’t quite fall for a Town player and Kyle Dempsey is stopped for a foul in his efforts to retrieve it.
29mins: Wide!
Elias Kachunga with the best chance of the half, he pokes wide after being found by van La Parra.
