Huddersfield Town manager Chris Powell felt his side's 1-1 draw with 10-man Brighton and Hove Albion was a fair result on the balance of play.

The Terriers took a 10th-minute lead through the excellent Jacob Butterfield as they went in search of a fourth league win in five but Lewis Dunk's stabbed effort from a corner six minutes before the break levelled the scores.

Both teams had chances to notch a second-half winner but Powell felt neither side could have any complaints with the end scoreline and was happy to maintain an unbeaten run which now stands at five league games.

"The point keeps the momentum going," he told reporters after the match.

"Of course I would love to have three, but we’ve played against a half-decent team that forces you to do things you don’t want to.

"We had a good opening and scored a very well-worked goal.

"It would have been nice to have held out, but I suppose the game ebbed and flowed; they had one or two openings like us.

"I suppose 1-1 is a fair result and it keeps us going."

Powell felt his side had matched the Seagulls, who had Kazenga LuaLua sent off for a second bookable offence in stoppage time, stride for stride throughout and was proud of his players' efforts against a team who monopolised possession for large parts of the contest.

"We tried to get the second, but Brighton got themselves back in it," he said.

"I thought Harry Bunn fashioned a really good chance for himself that was well saved by David Stockdale and Sean Scannell had the beating of the full back in the first-half, but he tired towards the end.

"When you play Brighton you have to work defensively because they play their full-backs really high – almost as extra wingers.

"We can’t stay in their half as we have to track them, just as we force them to do with overlaps like for our goal. You have to do the work in the Championship and keep your energy levels and concentration high.

"Brighton will look at it and say they worked Alex (Smithies) a couple of times, but he stood up to the test as well.

"We were resolute, because you have to be patient out of possession against Brighton; they really want you to have fewer bodies in midfield, because that is the area they like to dominate.

"Sometimes it can look frustrating, but it was OK for them to have it in areas where they don’t hurt you. Our backline had to stay tight when they tried to get between the lines and I thought we won the ball back well at times. We attempted to counter-attack from that."

While a win would have sealed the first trio of consecutive home league wins in four seasons, Powell was not at all downbeat with what he considered a deserved share of the spoils for both teams.

"I’m not frustrated, because my team hasn’t lost – it’s much worse when you lose a game," he added.

"I’m proud of their efforts. Of course we go out to win and we try to find different ways to win, but sometimes it may not go for us over the course of the game.

"Today we let Brighton back in it, but 1-1 was a fair result and now we’re a point better off and a place higher. We’re going in the right direction."
