Quoting Dr Mark Porter of the British Medical Association, he said: “The government should use the budget to stop the NHS heading to financial ruin.
“There’s a complete mismatch between the government’s promise of extra funding and the reality on the ground.
“If the Chancellor squanders this chance the NHS will continue to slid further into financial ruin.”
Mr Sheerman said there was a third of hospital trusts in “deadly trouble” including Calderdale and Huddersfield Foundation NHS Trust.
He said:”One of the biggest urban areas in England, Kirklees, is likely very shortly to have no A&E unless we win the fight against it.
