Homeowner speaks of moment when part of her house collapses in storm

A home owner has told how part of her house was blown off in high winds as she sat watching TV.
Linda Eastwood, a retired teacher, was sat in her home in Golcar at 5pm on Wednesday night when when she heard a slight shaking.
She said: “I have had the odd coping stone fall off in the past and thought that something had fallen from the roof.
“I looked out back and front and could see that something had happened. I looked out of my landing window and there was this heap of masonry. My friend Les Nutton came and had a look and said: ‘your gable has gone’.”

Very slow traffic and one lane closed due to accident on M62 Westbound at J25 A644 (Brighouse).

Two-year-old boy who died in accident at home is named

An inquest will be opened and adjourned tomorrow (Fri) into the death of a little boy who died in a horrifying accident at his Golcar home.

Two-year-old Bram Radcliffe is believed to have died after a fireplace collapsed on top of him.

The tragedy happened at the family home on the morning of Wednesday, November 8.

House 'blown down' in yesterday's storm

We’re getting reports that a house has partially blown down in yesterday’s storm.

Manor Road, in Golcar, is believed to be closed following the incident at 4pm yesterday.

We’re sending a reporter down and we’ll let you know more as soon as we have the information.

Britain ruled out of the race for European Capital of Culture 2023

UK cities have been disqualified from standing in the race to become European Capital of Culture 2023.

Brexit and Britain’s uncertain future with the EU is thought to be to blame.

This ends Leeds’ bid to be European Capital of Culture 2023 prompting fury from Leeds Central MP Hilary Benn who has accused the European Commission of ‘blatant discrimination’.

Man and woman arrested after attempting to sell stolen goods online

A man and a woman have been arrested after attempting to sell stolen goods on eBay and Facebook.

The pair were held by police after a haul of stolen DVDs, CDs, toys and sweets were discovered at a property in Scholes, Cleckheaton.

An officer from West Yorkshire Police’s Kirklees Proactive Team tweeted: “If you have ordered your Xmas presents from Facebook or eBay they may not be delivered.”

Our top story today is a report of a paramedic struck off for failing to save a heart attack patient’s life because he couldn’t carry the equipment.

David Prideaux told an internal investigation that he was unable to carry the defibrillator and all his other gear long distances due to his own health problems.

West Yorkshire: Problems on the M1

Further afield there are some issues on the M1.

Two lanes are closed and traffic is slow due to smoke blowing across the road and car fire northbound between J35A A616 (Stocksbridge) and J36 A61 (Birdwell / Sheffield North).

And one lane is closed and traffic is slow due to large stones on the road on M1 Northbound between J45 A63 Pontefract Lane (Leeds Cross Green) and J46 A6120 Selby Road / A63 Selby Road (Leeds Colton / Garforth).

National news: James Bulger killer Jon Venables 'back in prison'

Jon Venables, who murdered toddler James Bulger when he was 10 years old, is believed to have been returned to prison for possessing indecent images of children.

Now 35, Venables is thought to have been locked up after officials found the images during a routine visit to his home last week, the Mirror reports.

He is understood to have been taken to a maximum security prison over the alleged breach to the terms of his licence.

Venables abducted, tortured and murdered James, two, with classmate Robert Thompson on Merseyside in 1993.

They were released in 2001 on life licence with new identities after serving eight years.
